Details & Sanitization Information for Instrument Placement Night
5th grades students will sign up for a time block to try the band instrument mouthpieces. Each student will be given their own mouthpiece kit for the time block containing a high brass mouthpiece, two low brass mouthpieces, a flute head joint, and a clarinet/sax set-up. In small groups, students will be instructed by a band director on how to make a sound for each mouthpiece and then will quickly be evaluated for that instrument. The process will continue for each instrument mouthpiece. There will be an opportunity to try percussion for those that are interested at the end of each block.
In between time blocks, all mouthpiece kits will be disassembled, soaked in a 91% isopropyl alcohol bath for 10 minutes, rinsed in water, and finished off with a dip in 50% isopropyl alcohol with wintergreen flavor before being dried off and reassembled for the next time block.
Hand sanitizer will be available in each room. Masks will be worn the entire event except when students are actively trying instrument mouthpieces.
